My landlord was here and put some new caulking on the bathtub, that was 12 hours ago. My daughter has gotten a lot of food all over me at dinner time. I really need a shower. Do I chance it or go to my mom's?

  1. Go to your moms. source 30 years contractor. You will ruin caulk job 4 shure.Look at my % of best answer against the others

  2. Many types of caulk will dry really quickly, so you should be okay. If you want to be totally sure, test a small part (a bit out of the way) with your finger to see if it leaves any impression.

  3. I would assume that it should be set by now. If he used the tub and tile silicone then it will always be a little flexible and it may seem wet but it should be fine.

  4. should be alright, just try not to let the shower spray directly on it for too long....can't take a bath???

  5. It's not fully cured yet; you shouldn't use the shower. Give it another full day.

Some caulks - the ones that tout "water clean-up" - will be ruined if they get any moisture at all on them before they're fully cured. I had to re-do a shower door because of this (sigh... don't ask.)

  6. I think you will be ok.  Try and avoid direct spray from the shower head on to the caulk.  I am assuming that you landlord used a silicone caulk of some sort which has a relatively short "skin" time.  See the information below from GE's website:

How long does it take a silicone bead to cure (dry completely)?

A 3/16" bead "normally" cures in 24 hours. We say normally because silicones are moisture cure sealants and humidity affects the curing process. Different geographic locations experience varying degrees of humidity. Lack of humidity will r****d this process. If the product shows some sign of curing, such as a change in original consistency, it should cure. It just may be taking longer than normal. It may take up to 48 hours for sealant to cure under extreme conditions Silicone II:

    6-8 min tooling (work) time

    30 min before tack-free

    24 hour cure time
