New clubs will not change anything, says Rory McIlroy
When it was announced that Rory McIlroy will be moving over to Nike clubs from next season, he faced critics from numerous former players. Currently, and since the time he turned pro, the Irishman has been playing with Titleist golf clubs.
The new Nike deal is rumoured to be $250 million over the course of 10 years. Considering the amount this deal is huge but Titleist has been his tested companion during the last couple of years.
Dubai World Championships will be the last tournament for Rory and Titliest, after which, they will part ways. The world number one, however, believes that the new clubs will not have an effect on his game.
McIlroy said that he has already tried the new Nike clubs and he feels okay with them.
With new advancements in technology, almost all the brands now make compatible equipment, which has very less difference as compared to other clubs.
Former British legendary golfer, Nick Faldo has also criticized Rory’s decision to shift over to the new clubs. Titleist was his preferred choice during his rise and people now feel that money is the only reason why he has shifted over to Nike.
"I think all the manufacturers make great equipment nowadays and it's all very similar - a lot of them get their clubs made at the same factories. I don't think it will make any difference," said McIlroy.
2012 has been the best season so far in his career. He won at the Kiawah Islands and topped the money tour list on both the tours.
"I've started the process of trying a few new things," said the 23-year-old Northern Irishman.
"I'm still playing with my Titleist clubs - this is the last week - but I've tinkered about a little bit with the new ones, enough to feel comfortable going into next season".
Even the European Tour Chief has been proud of what Rory has achieved this season. George O'Grady also presented the current PGA Champion a special money clip.
"He played brilliantly all year and conducted himself in a manner where anybody would be proud to say, He's our champion”, said O’Grady.
