Question:

New computer or more memory?

My wife and I are running out of room for pictures on our PC. I got it in 2002...it has 20 GB. Most of that is taken up by music (~12 GB). Once you take all programs into account...it only leaves 2-4 GB for pictures...1000 pics at most. My wife thinks we should just add more memory...but since the PC is 6 years old...I think we should just get a new machine with better processing speed to handle all the music and pictures. Any thoughts or suggestions on the subject?

  1. Get a new computer; get a Mac.

  2. I reckon if you have the money, a new computer would be good, but if you're like me and just like to do the minimum you could buy a USB pendrive for some extra memory (8GB for £14 in the source), or a bunch of rewritable DVDs to store them on (10-pack with 4.7GB individually, making up 47GB for £13 in the source), or you could invest in a larger hardrive (160GB for

    £47 in the source).

All of that considered, a new computer isn't expensive either. An Asus Eee Box, with 80GB harddrive, 1.6GHz processor and 1GB of RAM is only £200. It's speedy, easy to use and looks great. It also comes with Windows XP installed, so you can get playing with it ASAP =]  (In the source again)

  3. I suggest you to buy a new PC because your old PC is already 6 years old. The quality of pictures is getting higher, so you need computer with high resolution and speed in order to view your picture without any delay and in good shape.

  4. I suggest you for a new system as your current system is old technology wise. With new system you can get HD sound and better picture quality by adding graphics in the system.

Its better to invest in new system rather investing in old system, as after 8-12 months you have to change the old system due to processing speed.

    Spec for new system:

    Dual core CPU

    2GB RAM

    Decent graphics card

    250GB or 500GB hard disk

  5. I think that buying a new PC is a good change because nowadays, computers are really cheap and come with at least 80 gigabytes and 1 gig ram.  You can buy one at dell.com for only less than 500 dollars.  You could also buy more storage but you still have the same old computer and I see you are looking for a better processing speed.  In conclusion, if you are looking for productivity, increase your RAM and also buy a new hardrive. If you only use your computer to work, buy a new computer now because all of the computers come with windows vista which would also enhance your entertainment.

  6. Unless you're planning to play games on the computer, I think you should just get a better harddrive. They're pretty cheap nowadays, you should be able to get one with several hundred GB for $100.
