Am afraid downloading too much stuff will make my computer run slower. Is this true?

  1. First, downloaded stuff won't slow down your machine any more than putting more books in a library slows down reading them.

Second, they go wherever you tell them to.  Normally, there's a directory (even the Desktop -- it's a directory) the download will use if you don't tell it otherwise, but you always have some control over this.

Read the dialog boxes carefully when you download.  In particular, keep your eyes open for Browse buttons, which usually let you pick an alternative directory.  I tend to have a specific directory named Downloads, so it's easy to find.

There's probably also a way to set a directory as the default.

    Hope that helps.

  2. Yes and no. When you download things it most likely goes to your desktop or in your My Documents folder. It won't slow your computer down unless you have a very small amount of memory in your hard drive.

  3. Not really!  But if you have a small capacity Hard Drive, then too much dowloading will slow it.  Too much software will slow it down.  Remember, downloading is like a disease! You find yourself downloading just because something is here to be dowloaded!  Try and avoid that.  If you have a large capacity H/D then go, go, go!

When you download, watch where it is going (make a note if you have to) and then go to My Computer and navigate to that drive, folder, etc.

  4. It is possible to re-direct all your downloads into a hard drive in another dimension. And since everyone knows a hard drive in another dimension has limitless space, you will be fine.
