New curve user - need some address book help

hey everyone.

new to the whole blackberry community.

i have two questions:

1. in the address book, can i create a group within a group? for example, ill make a group "Friends" and then within the Friends group, can i make subgroups like "in Chicago" and "in Atlanta" within the Friends group?

2. when i open my address book, all the contacts and groups are all mixed in with each other. is it possible to start off by seeing the main groups first? i know theres the Filter option, but thats not exactly what im looking for. it would be ideal to go into the address book, see only groups u have created, and then go from there for individual contacts and such. its a big gigantic mess when im looking for a particular group, but have to scroll through or search through all my contacts.

thanks in advance!!

hopefully someone can help me out, and if none of that is possible, maybe some suggestions on how to better organize my address book.

  1. Hi,

You can't have a group-within-a-group but you can have multiple groups assigned to a single contact... so you can have "Friends" and "Chicagoans" and you can view either your friends or people in Chicago... and your Friends in Chicago will appear on both lists.

If you want to get closer to group-within-a-group then you can create, for example, three groups: Friends, Friends-Chicago, Friends-Atlanta.

When you want to see just friends, filter "Friends".  When you want to see friends in Chicago, filter "Friends-Chicago".

For your second question... I'm not sure why they didn't implement a nesting solution like you want, but I suspect it could be because it's made more complex by the fact that some contacts will have multiple categories... so if you have a group "Friends" and a group "Business" and you have a friend who's also a business contact, he would need to appear under each group when you expand the group.

It's good to remember that contact searching is VERY fast, so assuming that most of the time you're looking for a contact by his or her name, going to the address book and typing "JOHN SMITH" cannot be beat!  Having to 'drill down' into "Friends" then "Friends in Chicago" then scroll or type to get to "John Smith" just doesn't perform as fast for the average user.

If you'd like to look at a different way of handling your PIM data, though, you might find Pocket Informant for Blackberry useful.

    www.pocketinformant.com

It's not yet released -- should be this month -- but there's a public preview and there will be public betas available shortly.

There's also "e-Mobile Contacts" for Blackberry from e-Mobile Software... they are at...

    Hope this helps!

  2. Try this website, they have a quick guide for the Curve, and also a link to official user guide and video tutorial...

    http://www.cellmadeeasy.com/index.php?op...

You can group them together, by clicking on the trackball while highlighting a name and scroll to new group... It will be in order, based on the alphabetical preference you may choose.
