Question:

New dwarf hamsters!!

I just got 2 dwarf hamsters and they are just adorable <3, I'm still thinking about names, but I did get argente hamsters (I think... they have ruby red eyes, a creamy color on their back and a white belly) They have already eaten, made a nest, and exercised on their wheel ... Their water bottle drips though so I'm getting them a new one. Also, is it normal for them to dig so much? I use carefresh bedding and toilet paper strips for nesting material. Whenever they walk anywhere, they dig their way there, they try to get under everything... will this stop after a while or will they keep doing this?

  1. They will always do this. It is totally normal, dont worry. Think about it, do you feel safer under the covers at night when you have a nightmare?!?!

  2. Hamsters are ground animals and burrow in the wild. This is totally normal. They also like to store their food, so they may be looking for a suitable place to keep it.

Just a few tips to get you through the next week-

-Don't overhandle them in the beginning, instead let them get used to their new surroundings and your voice.

-Clean the cage once a week, but when you do so, don't remove all of the bedding and stored food.

-You may find they urinate in one area of the cage. Sometimes it's wise to clean this out daily. You can even get litter trays and potty train them!

    Enjoy your new pets...

  3. Sure it's normal. I got one too and she does it all the time. It's their nature.

  4. It's perfectly normal; hamsters love burrowing.

  5. Its perfectly normal for them to dig a lot good luck
