Question:

New element on water tank leaks around seal?

i have a large old copper water tank(emersion???) the heating element was done for as the tank boiled if the emersion was left on for any amount of time.i replaced the element with a new one and now the seal around the tank and new element leaks.any ideaswhy??

  1. You should have had a new washer to use when you fitted the IH. Obtain a spare IH washer from a Plumber's Merchant. Also buy a small tube/tin of water potable grease. Grease the threads when refitting as that will ensure that you get a nice tight seal when tightening without damaging the tank. Make sure the mating face of the tank flange is clean too.


  2. Did you put the gasket that came with it on and/or did you make sure the old gasket came off and the area where the gasket seals against was clean and flat.

    Did you tighten it.

    Dont get upset at that. I am a plumber and it used to really p**s me off when i get a phone call at 9pm because one of my guys forgot to tighten it.

  3. Are you sure you didn't crack a seam  on the tank when you replace the element, or is the element itself defective?
