Question:

New ferret disease going around?

Some ferrets at the store where I work have come down with some weird illness. We took them to the vet, and we were told that they had a newly discovered disease that doesn't even have a name yet.

Here are the symptoms:

Light bleeding from the mouth, followed by heavy bleeding and eventually death.

Normal stool.

Normal urine.

No respiratory symptoms that I am aware of.

So far, no sign of being transferable to humans.

The two sick ferrets have been in our store for a couple weeks without any signs of illness. They were active and hadn't lost any noticeable amount of weight. This problem has only surfaced within the last week.

Does anyone else know anything about this mystery illness? Is it transferable to other animals/humans?
