When buying a new gas boiler is it worth $200 to get the electronic spark instead of a standing pilot?

Thanks.

  1. Yes that is a beautiful thing and that, and glow ignition, is soon to replace the standing pilot all together one day.

  2. I haven't seen a standing pilot for years on any new stove, So the one you are looking at, has to be used.

And yes, the electric ignition, is the way to go, a much safer option, with a gas stove, in case of gas leaks etc.

  3. The spark system is better you do not have to worried about a pilot light.

  4. the nice thing about the standing pilot was the fact it stayed on all year and provided a little heat on the inside of the unit. It was just enought to prevent the formation of water condensation and so it protected the unit against rust,,,,,which the new electronic units do not. The cost for the gas was a dollar or less per month.

And the repair costs were a helluva lot less too.

  5. I agree with Alvarz if it is in a semi damp location as the pilot light will keep the unit dry.  Both systems have advantages and disadvantages and both will occasionally fail.  I am really surprised a standing pilot is available, is this company trying to hose you?
