New glasses for astigmatism? But I see better with them off...?

I recently got new glasses for a slight astigmatism. I picked them up yesterday and I saw better with them off. They are blurry. I called the eye place this morning and they said my eyes have to get used to not working so hard. Is this normal? I've never worn glasses before.. so I really have no idea.

  1. i think its normal, sence u called and they said that what ur eyes need, go with what doctor say, they know best.

  2. They should not be blurry. They might feel a little awkward to adjust to but they should make small objects more distinct.

If they are making small objects more blurry, there is a problem with the prescription and you should return to get re-examined. Usually the glasses can be remade at no cost to you.

  3. Any new pair of glasses seem blurry at first and just take a little time to get used to.Even my current pair took a couple days for my eyes to adjust to even though my prescription was the same as my old one.Give them time, they'll work!

  4. When I was young, my glasses would always correct my astigmatism. It was a PAIN to get used to them every time.

Then I switched to contacts. At the time, they didn't have lenses that would correct astigmatism, so my eye doctor said it was my choice whether to go with the contacts and leave the astigmatism uncorrected or stick with glasses. I went with the contacts.

I didn't notice ANY difference in my vision. I only noticed that I adjusted to new prescriptions VERY quickly and easily.

I've since switched back to glasses, still with no astigmatism correction. I'm not having any problems with these lenses and I still adjust to new prescriptions within an hour or so.

My opinion is that mild astigmatism doesn't NEED to be corrected and some people might be better off requesting it be left off of their prescription. Are these glasses ONLY for astigmatism? Or are you also near/far sighted?
