Question:

New glasses have distortion...is this normal?

I just updated the prescription for my glasses to match that of my contacts. My contacts are fine, but I am not happy with my new glasses.

When looking dead center, straight ahead, they are OK. However, as I move my eyes to the side, distortion becomes apparent. Edges of objects have purple/blue/red edges. When I look straight out a window, everything is fine. If I move my eyes toward the side, the windowpane becomes bowed like this ) . I look directly at it, and it straightens out. This often makes me dizzy.

My other glasses never had this problem, should I go in and have them looked at? Thank you.

  1. Sounds like you may have progressive lenses or a high minus Rx. Whichever the case, some distortionn will be apparent in a high minus and a lot of distortion will be apparent in a progressive lens. If they are progressives, you have to get used to turning your head tolookl at things. If they are a high minus you may want to have them checked by another optician or eye dr. to make sure there is nothing wrong with your lenses.

  2. I have the same problem. I was told that it could be the polycarbonate material  used to make the lenses. my glasses are currently being re-made. I could not walk ,I felt as though I was much shorter. walls were bowed out. my computer screen was distorted. I could sit and watch tv that was it. I was extremly dizzy.
