  1. I got a whole set from Costco, they are good clubs for a beginner and very reasonably priced.

  2. Check online for outlets.  I am pretty sure Callaway has one where you can buy last years model, used, etc and still get name brand stuff.  You should buy decent clubs if you can afford it or you will just get frustrated trying to learn to golf.  Are you taking lessons?  Some of the instructors will let you try a number of clubs to find the best fit for you and then you can either buy them form him or find them somewhere else.

  3. Generally, most reputable sporting goods stores carry a good supply of golf sets, including irons and metal woods, that are reasonably priced and can grow with your game.  By the time that you have outgrown your clubs (and you will know when) you should have a good idea on the kind of club type that will compliment your game.

I, for example, started out with a cheap metal set then worked my way towards a fiberglass shafted set with regular sized heads.  I then worked on my game and discovered that I can hit the ball with more control, so I can then strike the ball harder.  Now I find that a metal shafted, large head clubs are the best for me.

When you game grows, so does your opinion of the clubs that will do you the most good.

    Have fun

  4. Golf is expensive, but once you are hooked that's it, I thought I would just start with a humble set from ***** for $300 Slazenger's, now I play almost every day and have already spent $200 on a new driver and a $150 on a new putter, so don't buy the entire kit, buy your irons separate from your driver and your putter, or buy a kit on ebay. I recommend, Taylormade for Drivers/Irons/Putters, Nike or Mizuno Irons. Callaway is a great brand, obviously, but the club heads are a bit more rounded than others and are for choice players. Definitely go and hit these clubs first, you can do that at ***** Sporting Goods, or other Sporting Goods Stores, check ebay they have new sets and drivers.

You will become obsessed with purchases in the beginning but it is so worth it!

  5. go to www.thedesignerstop.com you will save a loads on your clubs plus you know they are genuine

  6. There are two ways to go.  First go on EBAY and pick up a good name used set.  You can generally resale a used set of Ping, Callaway, etc. for pretty much what you paid for them on EBAY.  The other is what the suggestion was, go to a discount store and buy a full set, however you want get much in resale on those.

  7. Rather than buy a no-name brand at a department or sporting goods store I would recommend you go to a Golf Galaxy or Golfsmith store and purchase a set of used clubs.  That way you can get top quality equipment at a discounted price and they will serve you well if you get proficient at the game.  Also if you decide golf is not for you, you will be able to sell them and get some of our investment back, there isn't much of a market for used generic Wal-Mart clubs.

  8. Try using a borrowed set first from a friend. If there are other sets you can try go for it. Try them at the range. A lot ot times the clubs are not the most of concern but rather the "swing". Is there someone to teach you the fundamentals of the golf swing etc. or maybe get lessons?  Then possible move on to getting better clubs to match your game.

Try asking others around you that have played or are playing currently to get advise. Good luck!
