New hdmi cable, no color?

Question

I recently acquired an HDMI cable for my 32 inch hdtv.

and i plugged in my dvd player. it works fine and dandy, but it is in black and white.

what could be the problem?

You need to go into the dvd player settings and make sure the hdmi/component output settings are correct
