  1. That depends on your taste of trim....if its finger jointed trim it should be painted if solid trim a finish will work and you can select any color of stain! I like wood tone rather than painted, especially if it's new trim (even pine). It's not hard to do if you have a paint sprayer..just find the right stain, spray on, wipe off excess, let dry. then spray sanding sealer over it...sand lightly (use fine grit sanding sponges) then spray second coat and let dry. I have a piston pump airless sprayer with different size tips for spraying and this work would utilize smaller spray tips.

Painting the trim is about the same except you'd prime then paint. Don't forget to fill nail holes...spackle for paint, or matching wood filler putty for finished trim!

  2. If you want to leave them natural then sand, clean and use polyurethane this will give it a gloss and protect it for easier cleaning. If you want to paint it you first need to sand, clean, prime, paint. If you want to stain the wood then sand, clean, stain, polyurethane. Hope this helps. It will be a project but you will enjoy when finished. Congrats on the new home!
