New hookup - warning light going on

Okidata Microline 320 Turbo 9 pin dot matrix printer:Just purchased used & worked great at shop. Have just completely hooked it up to my Windows 98 computer as it will be used to print plant labels. However, as soon as I turned it on, the carriage moved & sounded strange and the red warning light went on.
