  1. you should adopt or rescue a horse. i adopted my horse a couple years ago, and she's perfect. you only have to pay an adoption fee, which i paid $600, and you're saving a horse!

  2. I would not reccomend rescuing a horse.  Seeing as you would be a first-time horse owner, a rescue horse would not be ideal.  Rescues often take a lot of work that inexperieneced owners may not be able to deal with.  Not only will they be in poor physical condition, but often in poor emotional condition, which is something a first time owner shouldn't deal with, as they often don't have the experience.

I'd reccomend going with an older horse, around 10 years old.  Younger horses require more training that should be given by an experienced rider.

As far as breeds go Quarter Horses are usually good.  They're reliable, all around horses.  They're strong, calm, have good stamina and are often tall.

  3. Being a new rider, you should buy an older horse, a horse doesn't mature until they are 6, so a 10 year old is more calm and stable than a younger one and since horses live to be at least 40 or more,,if taken care of properly you would have many years of good riding,,,also I would recommend a gelding they are the same every day,,,no hormones to worry about, and Quarter horses are good all around horses, good luck and happy riding,,I started riding at age 2, and still going strong at 60,,,

  4. Well, as far as breeds go, Quarter Horses are generally calm, strong and aren't small. I don't have any specific horses in mind, but it's a great breed.

  5. everyone wants a horse of thier own but make sure you are up to the responsiblitly to own your own horse. my mom and i have been riding for about 10 years and we just bought our first horse . after a year of searching we found the perfect one. and he was at our barn the whole time, but when we started looking he wasnt for sale. But my mom and i are still learning new things about owning a horse. our horse is a quarter horse and he is lovely. we love him to death. they are good for trial riding, and are loyal to thier owners so they ususally are not to afriad of things. they have  a good build and can be as short as 14.3 and as tall as 16.3, our horse is about 15.1 and still growing alittle bit. dont be hasty to spend to much money. we didnt want to spend that much but remember that saftey is the most important thing, we looked at a few horses about 3,000 which im my area is VERY cheap but they were dangerous one horse bucked nonstop, the others were out of control. so you want something that you can handle and if that means spending a little bit more, its worth it.  make sure you bring somoene experienced with you to try the horse and always always always make sure the person selling and showing you the horse rides it first, you dont want to take thier word about this being "the perfect horse" the horse could be a maniac. remember that the horse has never had you on thier back ever, so your feeling is very differnt to them. always have someone who knows the horse ride it first that way you can also see how the horse goes. good luck in your search. hope you find your dream horse.. hes out there somewhere! trust me!!! =)

  6. I agree with real.life. Be sure to look around at a lot of different places and horses and take your time choosing. This will be a lifelong commitment and companionship
