New house. Giant mess is out of hand. Help!?

My husband and I bought a wonderful house about a year ago, but it's taken on a life of its own. We are renovating while living here and we're becoming overwhelmed. We have extremely limited storage space since this house is 108 years old so we still - after a year - have boxes everywhere. Stacked in the living room the foyer, laundry, bedrooms and the kitchen. We're getting to the point where it's depressing and we don't want to clean and we don't want to work on the house either! How do you get a handle on such a mess?

  1. I am just the opposite of Don, I say start with the smallest mess and work your way up.  80% of problems are the amount of little problems mounting up to one large problem. Clear out the little things and then the big problems become minuscule in relation to the overall goal.

  2. Renovation is hard. I renovated my kitchen and even though I was prepared, halfway through my kitchen looked like h**l. But I had no choice but to persevere. I took one project at a time and got it to the point where things had to dry overnight. Then I started the next project and took it as far as it could go for the day. It took 4 more days but I finished it. The point I'm making is to make a schedule of what you need to do each day and COMPLETE IT no matter what. Soon you'll be finished and you can do the fun part--decorating. PERSEVERE!! The pride you'll have in the end will more than make up for the depression you feel now.

  3. Start in the biggest mess you have first and stick to it until its done once you have finished and see the difference your motivation should come back, in the mean time if you have the room in the back yard

( given you have a back yard) and the money get your self a little 3 meter by 3meter garden shed and stack your stuff in there kill two birds with one stone it will sort out your clutter and you can continue renovating. oh and some determination wouldn't go astray either.
