Question:

New house - clocks go faster, room lights effect computer.. Why?

We have recently moved in to a new house that we have built. The thing is that clocks attached to the electricity mains are going a little faster... Also when lights in the house are turned off, sometimes the computer makes a sound like new hardware has been detected or a USB taken out without safely removing it. This never happened at our old house.. What could be causing this? Would this be effecting electricity bills??

Thanks

  1. Sounds like you could have a voltage problem. You should have it checked.

  2. Its possible that you have a big build up of static electricity in the house, and this is affecting your computer. As for your mains electrics, get them checked out by a qualified electrician for possible overloads.

  3. Similar thing happened to me, clocks not only moved faster, but backwards.

  4. If you have a multi-tester, check the voltage on both sides of the elec panel box. If the clocks are moving faster, of course you will be using more elec. Think about a variable speed drill, the harder you pull the trigger the faster the motor goes and the more electricity you will use.

You might also give your utility company a call and have them check the line coming in. BTW, if your voltage is high thats the utility company's problem.
