i have no health insurance because i'm 19 and not in school so my parents can't cover it. i need to go to the doctor but it's gonna cost me like 80 bucks. i have a part time job making 8/hr, and i have to wait 2 more months to be eligible for their coverage, which is too long to wait, and it'll cost half of what i make a month... maybe more. are there any plans out there for me? that are cheap? and have a low co-pay? *crosses fingers*

  1. If you need medical care, you need to get it. What you can do is speak to the doctor's office BEFORE you see the doctor, tell them you're a self-pay patient, and ask them for a discount and a payment plan.

My office will give a 20% discount on fees for self-paying patients as long as they pay something ($5 ot $10) at the time of the visit and make regular payments. If they don't pay anything at the time of the visit, they lose the discount and get a fee tacked on - UNLESS arrangements are made IN ADVANCE. They also lose the discount if they don't make payments within 90 days. See if your doctor's office will make the same agreement, because if you put it off, it might be worse.
