OK So I started a new job as a waitress at a diner and in my interview (the day I Was hired) I told her my availability and my school schedule... also that I had a week and a half left at my current job... and I told her my weddng anniversary was a week away... She said no problems and told me to put in a request note for my anniversary, I Started the next day and worked the day after... Then when I called in today for the schedule I was Scheduled for my anniversary and an eleven hour double shift on wed in which I will still be at my old job for 5 of those hours... What should I do... Im new at waitressing and already they dont care about my needs. Ive been told by many that they are not a nice employer... and they had 4 employees quit recently hence the double sifts when i have no idea what im doing... Should I say forget it and keep looking???

  1. I would say forget it an look elsewhere.  I'd also explain to them to them that you are leaving so soon.

  2. You need to "teach people how to treat you"................Remind the employer of your understand when hired, if you don't get a compromise or favorable response......Drop your apron on the counter honey and walk out.

  3. Look somewhere else - tell them why you are leaving and maybe they will apologize and fix the situation. Maybe not.

    Good luck!

  4. Try talking to the manager. They should be able to help you, if they are nice.

  5. Just tell them you can't work those times and why.  Explain that you already told them this when you signed up to work but that your schedule will be more open later (if it will - at least no 2nd job getting in the way).  If they grumble and make things tough on you then you can always get a new job.

This is a bad start, but I wouldn't give up yet - still if you want to start looking around for something better while you work there, go ahead.

  6. Yes, keep looking. High turnover is a bad sign in many cases. Plus, you do not want to get burned out. It sounds like that may happen. In the meantime, you need to touch base with the person who hired you and explain that your hours need to be changed, as was promised to you when you were hired.

Good luck! I love working with people, but I could never be a waitress. I always leave a great tip if I go out, because I know how hard it must be. I would want to throw food at people. You all are not respected enough.

You will find another job! One thing to also be careful of is when they hire the same day-that CAN be a bad sign.
