Alright, the oil pressure light went on and I checked the oil. I thought there wasnt any in the bike because the oil gauge didnt show anything at all. So i added 1 qt. of Mobile 1 fully synthetic 10w-40 oil. Then engine oil light turned off. Thats good but then after reading a little farther into the manual i noticed that i was supposed to put the bike level when checking the oil level. After doing this i noticed that now i had to much oil inside the bike and probably a mix of mobile 1 and whatever the previous owner had. So i dont know what i should should i drain everything and replace the filter? Should i use a syringe and just take a little engine oil out? But then if i do this i think the engine oil light will turn back on. Just let me know what you guys think. thanks

  1. Your bike is probably OK until the next scheduled oil change but in the future check the manual before performing any maintenance on the bike. If You put way too much oil in it will start blowing out through the Breather and/or filler cap making a nice mess.

  2. If it's running fine, Don't worry about it...

One concern... did you use any "special edition" mobil 1?

(high mileage, increased fuel economy, etc etc) some of these oils have friction modifyers that will make your clutch slip like crazy...

as long as it is regular mobil 1, you're fine...

  3. Drain the oil out and change the oil filter.

You don't know what kind of oil the previous owner used.

Never mix synthetic and regular oil together!!!

They're not compatible with each other.

Hold the bike upright, drain the oil and install a new sealing washer on the drain bolt if necessary.

    Remove the oil filter.

Dip your finger in oil and wet the o-ring of the new filter.

Clean the surface of the engine that the filter touches.

Install the filter hand tight (grab the filter with your fingers and thumb - tighten it).

Hold the bike upright and fill it with oil until the oil covers the oil level window.

Install the fill cap, start and run the engine for a few minutes (to fill the oil filter and let the oil circulate throughout the engine).

Turn off the engine and let it sit for a few minutes (to let the oil drain back down to the crankcase).

Hold the bike upright and check the oil level - it should cover 3/4 of the window (drain or add oil if necessary).

  4. your clutch may slip a little with the synthetic in there but it will not hurt anything.....change your oil and filter every 3-5k miles

  5. Anybody that tells you synthetic and dino oil can't be mixed should be ignored.  It simply isn't true and he doesn't know what he is talking about.

Now your problem.  You can do whatever you want, draw some out, change oil, but if you only added a quart because the light was on and now its too full I think you may have a problem with the guage or ?
