We have had cats/kittens as long as we can think of.Never did we own a cat/kitten who refused to use the litter-box.

Anybody has some advise on what we could try?

We are unsure of what s*x it is.

  1. Try using Cat Attract Cat Litter. Cat Attract Training Litter has a natural herb blend to attract cats to their litter box. It is sold at PetSmart. Check out the website http://www.preciouscat.com  too. Good luck.

    EDIT:

Here's the link to it on Petsmart:

  2. Try some sand. I'm not sure if the kitten was a stray when you found him/her but it may be used to using the bathroom outdoors. One kitten we had wouldn't use the litter box filled with kitty litter but would use a litter box filled with sand. If it's a simple matter of it will not get in the box, there may be a more serious issue.

My cat was a two year old male when this happened. He suddenly started using the restroom (number 1 and 2) on the floor, luggage, etc. We took him to his vet and it turned out he had "Crystals" (kidney stones). The vet said it hurt him to climb in and out of the litter box. We bought him a special food and after about a month, he is now using the litter box again. The food can only be found at the vet, it's about $50 for a bag.

    Good luck!

  3. If it's so young that you can't tell what parts it has, it might not be old enough to go on its own. I have two cats that I raised from a bottle - for a while, we had to wipe their little bottoms so they go potty.

Or maybe it was weaned too early - that can cause issues, but it's usually some kind of oral fixation. Ours that we wound up weaning too soon (because apparently the two brothers weren't ready at the same time) sucks blankets when he kneads and licks people's noses and ears.

Or you could take it to a vet and ask them about it. If it's a boy, he could be blocked, but I'm not sure how likely that is in a kitten.

  4. Hmm, tricky one!

I take it you've been following the kitten around, and placing it in the litter box whenever it seems like it has to go, or after its meals, etc?

You might try getting a soothing feline pheromone spray thing - like Feliway, or something similar - and spraying it around the litter box, so the kitten feels comfortable there.

What kind of litter do you use? The kitten might be unused to the texture of the litter you're using - you could always try another kind (wood pellets, or fuller's earth, or whatever).

    Good luck!
