I'm a new leader thats about to have the first meeting with parents and 10 girls. The meetings will be held in a area that is economically challenged. Up to 90% of the school is low income or hispanic. Which brings me to 2 huge problems! The kids that are economically challenged: can they afford a $2.00 dues fee 2x a month? Is that too much to ask? I want to make it as low as I can but also we need the dues in order to run smoothly. Problem number 2: The hispanic kiddos. Assuming there will be kiddos that are hispanic considering the large population in the school. And assuming some parents may not speak English or have legal status. Should I even attempt to talk to these parents? I speak spanish but I can't do anything about the legal status. Therefore they won't be able to participate in anything that requires a background check (will they)? Girl Scouts requires all parents who help out get a background check. Leaders: have you any advice?
