Question:

New lens for my Canon.?

Hi, I need some help selecting a new lens.

I have a Canon XT with the stock 18-55 lens and with the 50mm lens; I love the picture quality I get when I use the 50mm but the only thing I don't like about this lens is that I have to walk to get closer or farther away to take a picture.

I want to get a new lens that I can zoom in&out but with the same quality I get as with 50mm.

I think the 50mm is still a good lens to take portraits but it makes it kind of hard to take pictures @ parties or family get-togethers.

My budget is around $400.00

Thanks again.

  1. Canon's best are their "L" lenses. They are well outside of your budget, but totally worth saving up for.

Perhaps you might like to look at this one http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/contro... to keep you going for a while, but you might be better off saving up for "L" glass.

The more advanced you get, the more quality you'll demand and you'll regret every penny you spent on cheaper lenses.

  2. Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 = decent images

go into a camera store and take test shots with different lenses

  3. The thing with the 50mm lens is that it's a prime. Since it doesn't zoom at all it means that the lens maker can optimize the lens for that single focal length. In order to get the same quality as a prime lens in a zoom lens you'll need to spend exponentially more money. I don't have experience with that particular lens so I can't give you any specific suggestions. However, you should expect to spend a lot for anything with comparable image quality. You definitely won't get anythign for $400.
