New logo for 49th 100PLUS Tun Abdul Razak Cup – Hockey News
It looks like the 49th 100PLUS Tun Abdul Razak Cup will be getting a new logo by the Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF) on March 23 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The MHF postponed the event that was scheduled to be played on April 2 as it was coinciding with the Malaysian Junior Hockey League (MJHL), and thus the date was moved back to May 27.
The event is to have an improved format in which 20 teams will face their respective zones and two divisions of 10 teams each will go in for the final rounds. The time frame has also been increased from two weeks to two months.
The MHF understands the importance of events like this, as it give an ideal opportunity to get some much needed practice for the players ahead of the 2012 London Olympics. Also the event will allow the MHF to observe and identify potential players that have
the necessary skills and talent to make it into the National team.
May 27 will see the start of the first round or Zonal qualifiers which will end in July 3. The top two teams from each zone will qualify for the Division One in the final round. However, Division Two will have 10 teams that did not qualify.
The event will have 20 teams participating which will include 16 affiliates of the MHF and four teams invited to participate which include Singapore, Labuan, Brunei and the National U16 squad.
The zones are broken down into five areas in the first round which include North, South, East, Central and West. It will be exciting to see which team dominates the event this year, as all of the squads will be looking to dominate the proceedings. The event
will also allow players to show off their talents in the hopes of getting selected into the National level team for International competitions and quite possibly the 2012 London Olympics. MHF will be hoping for a successful event this year and that their players
get some much needed time on the field.
