New logo for the new season as Carolina Panthers introduce a new Panther for the 2012-13 season - NFL News
The Carolina Panthers on Sunday announced that they will have a new franchise logo and typeface for the 2012-13 season.
The logo change is the first in the franchise’s history since it joined the National Football League (NFL) in 1995 along with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Carolina Panthers' President, Danny Morrison seemed proud of the new logo and said that it will provide a more modern yet aggressive look to the franchise.
"We have one of the finest and most recognizable logos in the NFL and wanted to make it as modern as possible without losing the dramatic essence of the mark,"
Adding further on the logo design, the President said
"It is a cleaner style that is easier to read and should be more applicable to different uses,"
The logo does away with the white outline of its predecessor and there is a marked difference in the facial features of the Panther with the whiskers and teeth coloured a subtle grey.
The typeface has also been changed with a nod to a Panthers claw swipe while the ‘A’ in Panthers has also been clawed away on the left-hand side.
Carolina Panthers official website stated that the new logo will denote
"more aggressive, contemporary look to the logo while making it more three-dimensional for ever-increasing digital use."
Carolina had a great 2011-12 season ending 6-10 and if not for their inability to close out games in the second half could have made it to the playoff wildcard rounds.
Cam Newton who started his first season in the NFL after joining Carolina as a first pick in this year’s drafts was brilliant and broke many rookie records as he powered the Panthers to third in the National Football Conference (NFC) South division.
The rookie quarterback broke Peyton Manning’s rookie season record for most passing yards in a single season as he passed for a mammoth 4,051 yards.
Newton also rushed for 14 touchdowns to break the NFL record for most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback.
The Panthers have a bright future with Newton in their roster and the franchise will be favourites to push for a playoff spot next season.
The new logo denotes new found aggression in Carolina and fans will hope that 2012 will herald a new chapter of success for the Panthers.
