  1. congrats .

for furniture i would say invest in a convertible one . you can use them later too .you dont quite need a changing table or a dresser or those fancy things that comes in the nursery . i have a changing table but i still change her on the bed or lap.

breastfeed , not only it is good for the both of you it is free . or apply for WIC they will supply infant formula until age one .those  simple gerber bottles are pretty cool and easy for a newborn to use . i should know i bought all the fancy ones and baby wouldn t take them .

get a graco car seat they rated best in safety.

socks and two piece outfits were better for me than overall . kids seem to grow so fast

and i definetely have tons of pacifier .  and a musical mobile . that helped me survived .

  2. Congrats on your little bundle. Here is a list of stuff that you DEFINITELY will need:

    Bassinet

    Bottles

    Diapers

Formula of course (have you tried to sign up for W.I.C in your area. Milk=FREE)

Car Seat, Stroller or some form of transportation

    Clothing

Everything else is called accessories. Throw a baby shower which also doesn't have to cost allow and allow your family and friends bring the rest. No matter how big or small your income is when it comes to taking care of your baby money doesn't matter because you will go to the ends of the earth to care for him/her. Don't worry put it all in God's hands.

  3. Breastfeed - that will save you a ton of money

Breast pump if you do breastfeed

You don't need a changing table

    You will need a crib

You don't really need a basinet

A stroller and a highchair can wait til baby is 4-6 months old

Not too many clothes in small sizes - they grow so fast!

    Blankets, socks, bibs, hats, onesies.

Have a diaper shower - where everyone bring you diapers.

Or a gift card shower - then you can go purchase what you still need.

  4. This is a question I get asked a lot when teaching childbirth education classes.  Here are the basics:

-Safe place for baby to sleep (usually a crib)

-Storage for clothing (usually a dresser or closet space)

    -Baby monitor

-You only need feeding supplies if you are bottlefeeding.  Formula is VERY expensive and breast milk is free (and best for your baby), so I'd at least give it a try.

-Baby bathtub (Safest way to bathe baby)

-I COULD NOT live without the Exersaucer (although you won't need this until baby is about 4-5 months old)

-Highchair and/or booster seat (you won't need this for 5-6 months)

Those are the basics.  The rest is all fluff.  Be sure to save your receipts in case you want to return anything.  Congrats & good luck!

  5. First off Congrats!!! Second the thing I could not live with with my new born was my Boppy pillow.  I was able to use it for so many things. Next I loved my swing.

I have a suggestion for your shower for when you have it. Have a diaper well. Have everyone bring you a pack of diapers in all different  sizes. I did not have to buy diapers for 6 months and that was a huge savings for me.

    Good Luck!!!!

  6. Formula fed babies don't need more doctor's appts...  lol

Breastfeeding will save you money, that's for sure.  You'll need a crib and a couple changes of sheets, a few blankets, some burp-clothes, hooded towels, baby wash clothes, a baby tub.  You may want to get a bassinet, too.  If you can get one, our baby swing was priceless for our first child.  She loved it.  Baby gates and other child-proofing items, though, you have some time before you need those.  Start stocking up on things now, too, like diapers (get an assortment of sizes), wipes, shampoo, baby Tylenol.  Those types of things.

Congratulations!  I wish you the best.

  7. I am also pregnant, but have read here are some important things:

    swaddling blankets

    body suits

    wrap/sling

    breastpump

    bassinet/crib

stroller & carseat - travel system

Also, you may want to check on Craigslist to get a lot of stuff.  Spending lots of money on clothes and toys is useless because they outgrow them so fast.  Buy them second hand.  Even good furniture can be found second hand. I found our bassinet and stroller on craigs list.

  8. Congrats !!  and  that makes two of us!  I'm 34 weeks pregnant and i wasn't sure what the necessities would be  at first. My suggestion is to try and buy something every two weeks or so   that should be lite  on your pocket instead of spending money for things you think you might need all at one time.

    but you definitely need :

    Crib or bassinet

Towels wash cloths burping cloths and bibs

Layette ( dont buy all nb stuff because you dont know how big the baby is going to be  and they grow fast )

diapers  (you can never have enough)

    Bottles at least 12

    and a baby shower couldn't hurt !

  9. Get your stuff from friends, friends of friends, garage sales, and CraigsList!  It saved us so much money.  The car seat is the only thing  you need to get new or from a friend you trust has not been in a car accident.  If you do that, you'll also need to verify with the car seat manufacturer that it was not recalled.  Good luck!

  10. Since you said you have a small income, definitely breastfeed.  Formula is so expensive (as are doctor appointments, which formula fed babies need more of).

Tracey - Do some research please.  And look at statistics.

  11. A crib (u can find plenty of "like new" ones online).  A bassinet is not necessary.

A swing, diapers, wipes, blankets, bottles (nipples, brush), pacifiers, clothes, car seat, stroller, dresser

I was given a carrier by my cousin and didn't even use the thing, toys...my baby didn't really play with any and still doesn't.

Check online for cheap or even free things.  Many things were passed down to me.

  12. If you have a very limited income look into the WIC program. when I was expecting my second child this really helped out. Consider breastfeeding, its free and always there. Just get a high quality breastpump

things I loved to have were the

    basinet,

    boppy pillow,

swaddle wrap blankets(they have velcro tabs)

unfolded cloth diapers were super handy for everything from a quick changing surface to a spit rag to a bib to a wash cloth. they're cheap and come in ten packs and wash well. if you run out of diapers you'll have something to use.

    swing-my kids loved theirs

travel system-infant carseat and stroller combo

basics- get alot of onesies and socks

rocker/glider- you can probably get one second hand, it was a life saver at 2am when I couldn't stand up any longer to rock the baby.

convertible crib- these cribs can transfer into a toddler bed

pak n play-portable playpen and bed system

Dont bother with the following ...a changing table instead get a dresser with a large enough top and put a changing pad on it. this will save you space and money

Wipes warmers are a waste of money, they dry out the wipes

bottle warmer- we never used ours
