Question:

New name for the BCA Pool League?

I've been pushing for the BCAPL to change it's name and it's logo due to the recent rule changes it has made. The BCAPL is no longer playing under BCA/WPA (world-standardized) rules and under the current name, I believe that it's very confusing and misleading. I understand that when the league was first purchased from the BCA that they wanted to keep the name and logo to capitalize on the existing reputation of the BCA. At least before the new rule changes, the BCAPL could claim that it was using BCA rules, but no more. In fact, I think that they should have changed the name when they first purchased the league from the BCA years ago, but now it seems imperitive that they do so. In a perfect world, the BCA would buy back the league and do things right this time, but I don't hold out much hope for that. So, any ideas out there for a suitable new name for the BCAPL? I'd be very interested to hear your suggestions. M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

  1. I understand why you would want them to change the name, but why would THEY want to change it? It's still called the BCAPL because it's established, and pool players know the BCA. They not only bought the league, but the name recognition and reputation that comes along with it. And even if a player is familiar with BCA rules before they join the league, it only takes them all of an hour (at most) to read the BCAPL handbook and learn the new rules, so I don't see the harm. Anyway, I'm sure in the sales contract it says that they have the right to use the name as long as they want, so I don't see it changing anytime soon.

    Edit:

I won't lump you into this category because I don't know your stance on the subject, but I think most people who would not be accepting them based on their rules are people who don't like leagues, or don't like playing on bar tables period. Most leagues are geared towards casual beginner, or intermediate level players, they don't want the guys that are running rack after rack playing $50 a set on the standard tables down at the pool hall. Casual players don't care if the rules are congruent with BCA rules, as long as they are fair. So the only players who are going to get bent out of shape are upper level players, and they don't care what those people think anyway.

  2. Americian Congress of Amature Players -??

I fully agree I thought when it happend it was designed as an entry level for am leagues but that was not the case at all In fact in diffrent words they just wanted to play on the rep of the BCA .but as a totaly diffrent league altogeather and as such they should drop the BCA banner .They are the very ones im so PO with .Rem the guy with the notebook paper -A good case in point

Its like the soapbox derby flying a Nascar flag at the start line looks good but thats as far as it goes
