New owner Shahid Khan seeks promotion of Jaguars ‘brand’ internationally-NFL News
Jacksonville Jaguars’ owner, Shahid Khan, has yet again spoken of his ambitions of promoting the franchise and the city on the global horizon.
Since formally taking over the ownership of the franchise on January 04, 2012, Mr. Khan has repeatedly underlined his priorities of developing the Jaguars as a successful winning unit on the field.
For the first time, he has gone a step further to disclose bearing the intentions of projecting both the team and city beyond the US borders.
He said that he would exploit his business contacts to market his team and the city internationally, and added that the city of London was one amongst the prospective priority destinations for him.
Shahid commented:
"I’m in training to be Jacksonville’s No. 1 salesperson."
The Illinois-based and Pakistan-born businessman is well connected around the world due to his international auto parts manufacturing business, Flex-N-Gate, which now he aims to use for what he called marketing of Jaguars brand globally.
His remarks have come following his recent visits to Germany, England and Japan, where he, during his handing over of Jaguars jerseys to some of his counterparts, was asked about the location of the city of Jacksonville.
It is yet again that Mr Khan has explicitly expressed his intentions of taking Jaguars to another level as he, soon after accepting the ownership rights, also assured the fans of keeping the team in the city and working for development of the both at the
same time.
While actions of the new owner are yet awaited, his repeated statements apparently resolve the worries of the fans, who were worried that the franchise might be shifted to some other city at the time of deal’s announcement by previous owner, Wayne Weaver.
Jaguars’ fans have already greeted the new owner wholeheartedly and must be pleased with the plans that he has spoken of so far.
Shahid might find it very supportive to his plans that he is not alone there, as almost all the local notable figures, especially his counterparts from the local business community, said to stand beside him in service of the cause.
Jerry Mallot, president of JAXUSA Partnership, has welcomed the scheme and dually pinpointed the difficulties that the local businessmen face in introduction of the city internationally.
Mallot said:
"That is a great help because we constantly fight the battle of where is Jacksonville or who is Jacksonville when we’re in other countries, whether it’s Europe or Asia."
Shahid’s remarks have also been taken positively by the American football commentators, who have cited the games, which are held at the Wembley Stadium in London, as good example of the American football projection in another country.
They indentified the UK, Germany, France and other European nations where the game of rugby is very popular as potential places for the American sport’s adoptability and growth.
