Question:

New parakeet... parakeet owners help!?

Just got a male green parakeet... it closes it's eyes when I sing to it, eats food, drinks water, eats millet, moves around cage.

Is this good progress for having it for three days?

How do I hand tame it? How long does it take?

When will it start chirping?

Thanks!

so here is your bible for parakeet care.

this site will give u all your answers and help you with every aspect to owning these feathered friends!!!

    http://www.budgieplace.com/index.html

    if that doesnt help ENOUGH

then this site will. if u scroll to the bottom, u will see a huge list of parakeet topics...you can click on the one that you need.

    http://www.lisashea.com/petinfo/budgie.h...

**i suggest bookmarking these two links**

**the traingin programs on these two sites REALLY work, if u commit to it**

    - the second site, is probably the best one, it is so helpful, i dont know anything better. IT HAS EVERYTHING! i just love it so much, thats why i keep talking about the second site

-the first one is simple, and gets u warmed upf or the second one!!

-chirping should take about a week....they like mornings

  2. that is GREAT progress!! now, if you want to hand tame him, it takes A LOT of trust between you and your bird.. you have to get him used to you.. if he gets scared of your hand, then just put your hand in the cage for a little bit to let him know you won't hurt him, and then when you have a lot of trust, put your finger infront of his stomach and he should jump onto your finger.

it'll probably take a while though, depend on how much he trusts you and how fast he learns..

My birds started chirping when they got used to the house.. i dont know how long that took.. so he'll probably chirp a little later.
