New pc build not working?

Question

Basically I installed everything, went to turn it on and theres nothing. No lights on the mobo, press the switch nothing.

Specs:

650SLI ultra board

q6600

2gb OCZ ram

580W huper PSU

8800GT

It's all compatible, have no idea what the problem is. Any ideas?

Hi there mate, first all you need to do a reverse point of ilimination test.

disconnect everything and take it out of the case. Leave the cpu and heatsink attached for now. place the board on a hard surface.

The only things that should be connected now is the

CPU and heatsink

the mini speaker

vga to monitor

and the memory

oh, and the 24pin atx power cable.

Now, touch the 2 power headers with a s***w driver(this is known as hotwiring)

Now this test was to see if your standoffs were not shorting out the motherboard so it called (out of box)

If still no post, disconnecet the 8800gt, the mem, so the only thing connected is the cpu and bios speaker.

Hotwire again, if no post, you have cut it down to you m/b or psu, just out of hind sight send them both back there is no point taking any risks with a new build. Also - if the bios speaker scream like a lil girl this is fine, its just the bios telling you that they is no memory connected.

If it works out of box double check that the standoff are in the right place. A small hack also is to cover each standoff with a bit of electrical tape (duck Tape). If still no post , like everyone else has said, check your header configuration.

If you live near a maplins you can pick a " Power Supply Tester II" for under £20 quid.

If it posts, connect one at a time, then see if it posts each time and that will show you if its something else causing the problem.

If nothing at all happens, your power supply might have been dead on arrival.

i could be silly here,but has your psu got a on/off switch?is the current on psu set properly & not stuck between the settings ?.

Check all the power cables go to the right place, that the BIOS was inculded with the CPU or motherboard, and that you have the Operating System disc in the DVD drive.

What kind of power supply are you using? Make sure you have it all hooked up right. I know it can be confusing. Take another look and make sure you try the ports you questioned.

Are you sure the power switch is hooked up to the correct pins on the board? Also, the power connectors firmly seated?
