Hey guys, i got a young female dumbo rat yesterday morning. Shes adorable, but very sketchy. I was told i could take her out like after 24 hrs but i was wondering what everything thinks, she comes up to my hand and sniffs it and nibbles on my finger, but i dont want to take her out if she freaks out, Any advice for a new rat owner , thanks :)

  1. well what you wanna do is just not take her out till she gets a little more use to you, or just give  her a few more treats to get her use to you.

  2. just give your rat time to settle in. also giving your rat treats is a good source of them getting used to you.

gradually try to start to handle your rat more.

  3. after shes settled a bit in her new home recommend handle as much as she will let you, wash hands first, less likely to nip as may be expecting food if your hands smell like they could be good to eat, they generally like pockets and sleeves as feel more secure un-exposed. mine like to be gently tickled back of neck, most important don't be scared, they're your pet, love them

  4. you should take her out! you should do it in a bathtub or shower(without the water, lol) so she cant run away!

    have fun!

  5. Well, I would go for it and take her out to play. Use a hand towel to get her and wrap her up in the cage before getting her. That way she won't scratch on the way out. The only part she will be scarred of is coming out of her cage, once she is out, she will be fine!♥

  6. First off, she needs a friend. Rats are highly social animals and need to be kept in same s*x pairs or groups.

I have a website on rat care here: http://www.petinfopackets.com/rats/ratin...

  7. Get a friend... lots of information here - Ratztails.co.uk.

  8. you should get another rat. and if you get her out do it in the bathroom, as there are not many places for them to hide. i made the mistake of letting my nervous rat out in my bedroom and he hid under my bed
