New players continue to get a place in International Australian Women’s Squad – Hockey News
After a successful experiment of introducing eight new players to the junior Women’s Australian team named Hockeyroos, four more players are now expected to debut in the international hockey event namely Sally O’Toole, Elizabeth Duguid, Hollie Webster and
Jacklyn McRae. They will be playing the Canberra test series against the senior Australia-A and World number one Argentina team to be held on April 1.
Further another series to be held in Sydney will feature a different team of Hockeyroos against Argentina on April 8. Such transformations in the team are being done in order to get the best mixture of skills, speed and experience where both senior players
and youth will join up to play together as a team.
It is expected that the young female players will continue to be in good shape and former dominance that they commanded over the World Number one team a few weeks ago in Mendoza’s 4 Nations tournament.
The coach of Hockeyroos Adam Commens commented on the fact that still more players are to be introduced in short time as they are preparing the team for the 2012 Olympic Games.
He said, “After a successful tour of Argentina, we will continue the theme of exposing as many players as possible to international competition in the early stages of our preparation towards London.”
Commens shared the fact that after an excellent performance shown by the four debutants in the previous matches and the Hockeyroos training camp, they had proven to deserve this opportunity.
He was delighted to find the senior player Renee Trost to enter back in the international program after an almost three year disappearance. Commens regarded Trost to be an outstanding athlete with both physical and mental stamina that was apparent during
the training camp that occurred earlier this year. He informed that she would be getting a chance to perform in these upcoming matches.
The Sydney hockey test series will be featuring some further changes in the squad including few seniors like Jill Dwyer, Bianca Greenshields and Rachael Lynch to recover from their respective injuries.
Commens discussed over the changes in squad and said, “This selection further highlights our policy of exploring new combinations as we attempt to find the right balance between youth and experience, speed and aerobic power, playmaking ability and solid tactical
play.”
