I am looking after my friends small 7week old yorkshire terrier puppy today for aweek, it hasnt arrived yet and im quite worried. I have a kitten who is now about 7months old and is alot bigger than when i first got her. I am worried she may hurt the puppy as she can be quite rough lol as cats are. I was wondering how the best way to ease her into the new puppy would be, like how should i introduce them? Thank you x

  1. Put the puppy in a laundry basket turned upside down so your cat can not hurt him. Then let them become introduced to each other. Dogs and cats are not natural enemies like most people think.

  2. i think the best way would be to if you have a glass door to put one on one side and the other on the other side and let them see each other. then have someone hold your cat and someone hold the dog and hold the claws of both and have them meet eachother.

  3. u kno them toddler fences u put in doors ways? well use one of those n twice a day for 30 min. take it out they will soon get used to each other, I think the puppy might be more of a prob. has the puppy ever had any interaction with cats?

  4. ive had 2 staffordshire bull terriers 6 puppies all in the same room as my cat, just hold either the puppy or the cat if they show any signs of agression put the aggressor outside, keep doing this untill they stop,

  5. My personal experience (I've done this twice) is that eventually they all settle down and get used to each other. Especially if you introduce a puppy to adult cats, the cats will show the new pup who's boss after a while. The puppy will learn that the cats have claws (watch the eyes, natch) and very quickly learn some respect.
