Question:

New puppy destroying everything?

So we got our puppy about 4 weeks ago. He originally only destroyed things when we were away and I know all about separation anxiety and all that. So we bought him a crate and it solved that problem. But now he will sneak off to my daughters room and find one of her toys or one of her stuffed animals and destroy it. We bought him a new bone today for him to chew on and he seems to love it so far. We have bought him a stuffed animal that is all his and he's already gotten the entire stuffing out but will still play with the shell. He has quite a bit of toys. He is around 6-7 months and in the process of getting his shots. After the shots are complete we will be getting him neutered. We plan on obedience training him ourselves with the clicker once he's settled in and completed the shots as well. Any other advice?

  1. get him fixed and trained now!!!  do not wait to train or it will be harder to do later because he will be set in his ways just like kids teach them right from wrong early and you wont have a problem later. dont buy him toys that look like forbidden objects... he cant tell the difference

  2. My Advice:

Supervise him properly.  He should not be able to "sneak off" anywhere.

Have your kids pick up after themselves.

Close the door to rooms that are not dog proofed.

Exercise him more.  He doesn't sound stimulated enough.

  3. okay dont listen to the one 1st answer! dont fix it right now its way to early, its like ur fixing a 3 month year old baby xD okay anyways, train him, and my oppinion is, because, his teeth is itchy because his still a baby, his teeth are growing and he needs to chew stuff, but if he starts destroying things then... -.- he should probrobly create a puppy war 1 xD

  4. I'd try a baby gate to keep him out of your daughter's room and being vigilant about picking up things off the floor and tracking his movements around the house.  Or simply keep the door to her room closed.  When my dogs disappear, it usually means they're into something (not too different from kids).

  5. If you wait till puppy is close to a year old to train then you may want to wait till your kids are teen agers before potty training. Train him and neuter him now don't wait. and give him things that are harder to chew up.

  6. to be honest you need to get him trained by a professional to ensure the best training!

    Good Luck! :)
