New races are “important” for the sport – Ross Brawn
With the announcement of a Russian Grand Prix that will join the Formula 1 calendar in 2014 a week before the inaugural Korean Grand Prix, Mercedes team boss Ross Brawn thinks that the idea of expanding Formula 1 across the globe can only be a good thing.
The last thing the FIA needs right now is a person supporting Bernie Ecclestone about introducing new venues for Formula 1 so rapidly. Yes, Formula 1 will become more entertaining and versatile but what about the drivers and the teams? Even with 19 races
this season, the drivers and teams have had a tough time preparing for the races before the grand prix weekend and even after a lot of consideration and speculation, Bernie stated on behalf of the FIA that a 20 race season would be the limit.
Instead of trying to think of methods of trying to satisfy the current venues and teams, Bernie is making it even more difficult for them to get used to a busy and difficult schedule as compared to the past couple of seasons.
Yes, it is important for the sport to expand around the globe and what not, but one must think of the fact that such a tough and difficult schedule can get on a drivers nerves with all the practice sessions, testing, racing and other stuff.
However, even though Ross Brawn is one of the most experienced people in the Formula 1 universe, his support of Bernie’s decision was very immature as he has worked with Ferrari for half of his life and should at least be aware of how much stress and pressure
these sort of decisions will exert on the drivers and teams.
Brawn thinks that it is important for the future of Formula 1 that they continue to expand the sport around the globe. Due to this, Brawn is very pleased that the Korean venue is ready in time after so much uncertainty.
“We have been preparing for the new Korean circuit back at the factory with work on our simulator so we have a good idea of what to expect but as always with a new track, it will be an interesting challenge,” said Brawn.
Michael Schumacher has to be one of the most experienced drivers in the history of Formula 1 and has faced this situation many times before when he had to race on a track he had never even seen before. Michael agrees with his team boss Ross Brawn about having
new venues on the Formula 1 calendar.
He is in favour of new races and thinks that it will beneficial for the sport. “It should not be too complicated to learn the layout and we are used to adapting quickly to new circumstances. We had quite a good race in Japan last weekend and are hoping that
we can move forward again and put on a good show at the first race in Korea,” said Schumacher.
One should ask the 7-time world champion what he would do if he is told that he would not see his family almost all year and that he would have to live with it for the coming 10-15 years or so. At least Schumacher has the option of leaving Formula 1 after
a couple of years or maybe even sooner but what about youngsters like Adrian Sutil, Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton and many other drivers on the grid? Would they agree to race in 25-30 venues a year with no breaks? After the season is over, the teams prepare
their new cars for the coming season and the drivers are required to test their new equipment. It also takes away from the excitement factor of the sport and experience will no longer be an element in Formula 1.
