New respect for Leafs?

Dumping Gill and now buying out Tucker proves they are tired of being losers. Well done, whoever is really in charge...Fletcher looked like a zombie at draft day.

What are your ideas on this?

  1. Now Sundin needs to exit and then we will see how serious this team will be. He is talented and we will miss him. The fact still remains he is a fossil. That being said, I think he is holding us back BUT I also think he has more than paid his dues in the NHL and he DESERVES his Stanley Cup and championship ring. He will not get that in Toronto before he is forced out because of age, so he needs to go somewhere he can achieve that goal.

  2. Nooo, not Tucker! I know we need change but he is one of my favourite players.

Well, I've never heard your rantings, but I guess I should have been prepared. Change needs to be made, unfortunately change was getting rid of one of my favourite players. Tucker will be especially missed in the blue and white when we're facing the Sens.

  3. I think they are going to get rid of pretty much everyone on that team and start rebuilding, cuz sundin aint coming back. I think mccabe is going to be the next one gone, and im 50,50 on thinking that kubina is going to be gone.  The new guy who bought them out has loved kubina and if he is going to start all over i think he will buy him out fully, or trade him.

  4. so...........

    1.  They've put Raycroft on waivers with the intent to buy him out (according to Fletcher)

    2.  They've put Wellwood on waivers with the intent of outrighting him to the Marlies (according to Fletcher)

    3.  They're putting Tucker on waivers with the intent to buy him out (according to Fletcher)

    4.  They are holding talks with the Islanders to try and trade McCabe (according to sources in Long island and Toronto)

    5.  Kubina's future isn't set in stone either (according to Fletcher

They extended Sundin a 1 yr offer at $6MM (according to J.P. Barry)

So.................I'll hold off on my respect for the organization until AFTER I see what they are replacing all of these players with.

  5. Yeaah i know my leafs are finally making the right moves. But with all do respect I don't hate tucker. He was a strong and talented player and he will be missed but some times he did stupid things. As Kate said I hope he goes to a good team. Hate to see Wellwood and Raycroft leave but changes needed too be made! I definitely want to see Sundin back! Hopefully all this is a sign for a better season!

  6. Not on my dead body! I've been a fan of the Bleu, Blanc et Rouge so long Gretzky was still on the Oilers .. the Cubs will win back to back Super Bowl's before I own anything with the Leafs logo.

No offence to 288, Singh, Chris and their other fans in this "group" of ours. I (respect) their rooting for their hometown team. It's just not in me ..

  7. Actually, Gill was the No. 2 defenceman on Pittsburgh in the playoffs this year and filled in extra minutes for Gonchar when he was hurt in the Stanley Cup finals. For most of his time with the leafs he was the only -plus defender on the team.

Dumping players is fine (anyone in this forum could walk in as Leafs GM and hand out dismissal slips ) but so far there's no deals to replace any of these guys because aren't getting anything back in return ... the roster is going to be filled by players from the minors who couldn't crack the Leafs lineup before. The free agent list is lame this summer, so it's going to be quite a job to find two lines and three or four defencemen.

Wellwood is gone because he is famous for not training in the offseason (no wonder he is injury prone) and Raycroft is too expensive to keep around as a backup. His $1.2 million salary is double what Stanley Cup winning goalie Osgood made last year.

Maybe Toronto's going to tank it this season so they have a shot at picking No. 1 choice John Tavares.

  8. I quite enjoyed them dumping Gill, thank you. He makes a nice d-man for my Pens. =b

Bring on the thumbs down, BUT..................I like Tucker too. I think he's a great player. He had toughness, heart, and grit. Sure he had a bad year, but I still think he's a great player. I just hope he gets picked up by a decent team.

  9. Good moves so far by the Leafs.  I was happy they moved up to draft Luke Schenn, he's a beast.  Getting rid of deadwood players is also a positive move... the Leafs and their fans, like me, don't need Raycroft, Wellwood, Tucker or guys like that now.  We need to take a step back to take two steps forward.  We need to build this team right, from the ground up, so we have a real chance at winning a Stanley Cup and shutting up all the haters.

    LEAFS FAN FOR LIFE!!!!!!

  10. It'll be a few more if not several years before the "Falling Leaves" even become contenders... How much longer will the fans pour their hard earned dollars into the organization...And now with Darcy Tucker gone, maybe he and his ill tempered brother in law Shane Corson can go into biz together. So today, three "Leaves" have "fallen", and still no G M to lead the troups. Guess their still wating for the "nasty lawyer" to fulfill his committment in Duckland, eh..?

  11. Wait, what?!

I wasn't aware of that! Weird, it would of been breaking news.Oh well, good for them?..I guess.

  12. thank god someone is finally willing to come in and wipe out all the players.  and not care who the fan favourites are.

if you looked at the crowds this year in toronto, they were diminishing, people werent caring as much, it was truley the first year i saw this (i work at the acc during every leaf game)

i think its fantastic to be making some of these changes, the leafs have just been HORRIBLE the past few years and they arent doing anything to fix it, yeah they migfht be just as bad this year, but they are chaning things up this year.

peace out raycroft, tucker, mccabe, wellly, sundin.

  13. I was surprised that they bought out Tucker. I thought that he'd blink first but he didn't. Fletch is the hired gun. He is doing what no one else would do nor had the authority to do. Carrying the scar of Tucker for six more years of cap hit won't hurt the Leafs but if it makes the dealing with McCabe easier it's worth it. One more year of McCabe, Kubina will be done with and Sundin is a year by year concern. (He will re-sign or resign by the way).

Also Spaceboy, I'm sure that MLS&E are happy to hear that they have your respect back.

  14. Respect for the Leafs? I've heard of "fantasy hockey," but this is ridiculous!

  15. Tucker always started the season quick, on pace for 30 or 35 goals, and then cooled off the rest of the way.

Disappointed to see Wellwood put on waivers.  He has a lot of talent.  If he could play a season without injury, he could put up some decent numbers.

Would really hate to see Sundin for another team.
