New samsung 530 and new dtv hdmi cable box?

i got a new samsung 530 and a new directv hdmi cable box. we already had dtv, but the tv won't show anything dtv related. it's all hooked up and everything, but the dtv is working. can somebody please help?

  1. Ok, here's something to try. You can't see the DTV unless your Samsung is set to select that specific HDMI input. But keep in mind, HDMI ports are kind of smart. I have a 71" Samsung DLP TV with Satellite and PS3 on HDMI... if the PS3 is off, the Sammy won't even select that HDMI port. So there's a really good chance that, unless you DTV is powered up and delivering output to the HDMI port, your TV won't even select it.

    That means, by extension, that if you power up the TV first, it'll set itself to a different input, in all likelihood... I don't know if you can lock it in place or not. So you have to power up your DTV (making sure it's in HDMI mode), then select the HDMI input on your Samsung. And make sure the DTV is set to a compatible format (this can usually be done automatically, since the DTV can basically ask your TV what resolutions it supports).
