Question:

New sink with a garbage disposal, and it is too tight, the rubber gasket?

We have a new sink with a garbage disposal.

The black rubber doo-hickey that is in the hole which keeps things from falling into the disposal is SO tight, if thats the right word, that not even water goes down it. plus we have the highest water pressure to aim at it, to no avail.

any suggestions to make the water flow but keep the rest of the things from not falling in.

thanks!

  1. I believe the rubber piece is cut like a pie. First using a utility blade cutter, cut the existing slits all the way to the edge of the hole. Second using a scissor, cut the existing pie pieces in half.

  2. Time to call a professional plumber.

  3. try running hot water for a bit.... this will loosen up the black rubber strainer - just as its new, it will loosen up with use,,, good luck

  4. joe a  has got it right run hot water it will loosen up and the newer models have so much insulation now that you can barely hear them run.
