Question:

New skates HELP!?

I have used graf villars 4 one year they were secondhand (villars are now arosas).

and I just got a pair of risport RF4s, really padded.

I wore them today and when i got on the ice I could hardly move in them! They were so hard to wear! I nearly fell over about 100 times! I know breaking in is meant to be painful ( it was! I had to leave after only 1hr), but does it mean getting used to these skates? I can imagine jumping in them (or crossovers!) they are so heavy!

HELP!

  1. To person above me - YA! isn't a place where you should be all bit(hy like that.

    Anyway...

Yes, I had the same expercience, only it was Silver Star from Riedell! Painful, painful, painful! Eventually, they'll mold to your feet, but it will take a lot of time. For the first week or so just glide around the rink try a few t stops or snowplows, to break in the blade. It'll be painful, but worth it. After that, try to do some three turns then gradually move on to the 2 foot spin. Don't go beyond that. Repeat the whole process again. After about 3 times, you could do higher things now. If your foot still hurts, continue the process. A tip, sleep with your skates on. It'll be uncomfortable, but if you really want it a bit quicker, do it. Another option is to save yourself all this trouble and have it broken in chemically, This what I did, since I had blisters and I couldn't take the pain anymore. It'll cost around $15, try asking your coach or the local rink people if they know a place where you can have it broken in chemically. Hope you have fun breaking them in and good luck!

  2. i have risport rf2's

and ive used risport all my life.

my first skates were secondhand risports.

and im so use to the way risport makes their skates that it takes me about two skating sessions to break them in.

And risport comes with stages, so the more you improve as a skater, the higher quality skates you should get.

and i needed new skates, fast. and the next level in risport skates were in stock in my size, so i got the rf2's, and it took me about a week to REALLY get comfortable.

but even when i get new skates, i go out and i still jump and spin anyways :/

i think you just have to do stuff on the ice even if you feel the pain , and maybe its the way your skates are sharpened.

Because sometimes the place wher i get my skates, they hockey skate sharpen them :P

  3. put some bladeguards on and walk around the house in them (saves money on ice and breaks them in a little)

also, have you tried bunga pads? i use them all the time.

they really cushion your ankles so it doesnt hurt as bad. they are kind of expensive so i would get a long bunga sleeve and cut it in half instead of two seperate ones. it will save you like $10. it is WELL worth the money

  4. you have too give them time to ''shape'' their form after your feet

  5. I would make sure they are the right size and you have them laced up well. What I do whenever i get new skates is I put my guards on at home and just walk around the house with them on. It will help a lot with breaking them on for the next time you go and skate. I would do this until they are broken in. And they may be heat moldable. So I would ask at your rink if they can do that for you.

    Hope That Helps.

  6. Most skates are like this when you first get them. The leather takes a MINIMUM of ten days to break in IF you wear them every day. Skating in them for 1 hour is perfectly fine, and probably all your feet should have to endure for a day.

To help the process move faster, wear your skates around your house(on carpet and in hard guards!!!). Practice bending your knees and stretching the leather out. You can also bend your skates with your hands to make the leather more flexible. I've never used risports before, but talk to the person at your skate shop and ask if you can have your skates heated. That loosens the leather and makes them easier to move in.

Yes your skates will be heavier - especially if you upgraded. My skates felt like they weighed twenty pounds the first time I started walking in them, but it is needed padding. As you get used to your skates, they will not feel as heavy, I promise.

Breaking in skates does not happen over night, but the more pairs of skates you have to break in, the easier it gets. Learn the methods that help you break skates in easier.

    HIH!!! Keep Skating!

  7. U should probly either have someone fit them for u or mold them, (only on jacksons)

u should get jacksons, I really like mine!
