whats the usb port on the back of the box for?

Nothing for customers to use. It can't be used to copy recorded programmes to a PC or anything like that. I think it's mainly used by Sky engineers who have to update the software in the box with a laptop. The best use you can get out of it is to charge up MP3 players or other devices that charge through the USB socket on your PC, because it's still got the 5v power going through it.
