I've always rented in the past, and am loving learning to snowboard so i bought my own setup....not sure what im supposed to do before i take it on the hill though...do i need to wax my board right away? and should i break in my boots before i get on the hill? What can i expect to feel different from rental equipment to new equipment? I'm scared I'm gonna feel like I'm starting over 'cause I'm used to rentals lol

PS, my setup is:

-2007 Salomon Radiant, 154 cm

-Burton triad bindings

-Salomon Kiana boots

  1. You might want to detune the edges on your board alittle but other then that - slap on your bindings a go!

Your board is already pre-waxed and you boot will take a little time to get use to, but remember that you can simply take a screwdriver to the hill with you and make adjustments as needed....afterall it your stuff - make it work. :)

  2. haha this is funny because i just got my own setup last week (morrow radium board/ burton freestyle bindings/ burton hail boots) and i gotta say i felt like a pro (im a begginer) on my new stuff. the board was a little slipery but with a few minute of riding i was able to control it very nicely, the boots were tight and stiff on me but io suspect it only helped my riding except that it was a little uncomftorable because of the stiffnes. but no matter what your new equipment will be alot better than the rentals, enjoy and good luck , dont worry you will be surprised how much better it is then rentals, i cant wait to break my stuff in!!!!!!!!!! good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Your boots will be a bit stiff and strange until you ride in them a bit. The best thing to do to make them feel good is ride lots. Wearing them around the house isn't a bad idea because heat from your feet will help the liners start to mold to you.

You might want to get the boaed waxed and (de)tuned, but often they're fine with factory wax - assuming it has it.

Set up the bindings on the board, stand in them to make sure the stance is right and you're set.

The setup will feel different but you'll be back to normal and loving it by lunch!

  4. Your all ready, just put it on and go. It won't be that different; if anything better. You can make binding adjustments once you have gave it a try.

  5. sick gear

you definetly do not need to wax your board

you should break your boots in, it will help.

when I get new boots I wear them around the house a bit. also, i strap my board on in an open area like the living room on carpet. you can now feel your board a bit, lean back and flex it out, ollie it a bit and feel it's pop. this is good for the board and the feeling of the boots. it also lets you see if you need to adjust the binding stance.

congrats on your new swag, enjoy!

don't forget a leash, or the leash hounds will get you!

p.s. after a bit of riding, check all the screws that hold your binding straps on. i've known a lot of people that got new burton bindings and after a few times of riding, the strap falls of in the middle of the day. just keep a heads up on making sure they're tight enough.
