New sponsorship deal for RBC Heritage
The upcoming PGA Tours’ RBC Heritage is about to start in South Carolina, with its old tradition while having new sponsors.
Last year, it was known as The Heritage and was won by Brandt Snedeker. This year, the interest level has increased due to the addition of the new lead sponsor, RBC, presented by Royal Bank of Canada and Boeing.
This tournament is played every year, right after the Masters Tournament, which is the first major of the year. The purse of the event is $5.7 million, out of which the winner will earn $1,026,000 and additional 500 FedEx Cup points.
It is also in the news for having secured a new lead sponsor. In 2011, its future was not assured, as it did not having any financial support.
Now a sponsorship contract has been signed between the officials, RBC and Boeing. It says that from 2012, both will support the tournament, staged at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, South Carolina, for five years.
Now, the tournament will make five successful years. This is the most appealing cooperation for players and spectators.
"A year ago, the future of this tradition was unknown," tournament honorary Chairman Ward Kirby said.
"We were not sure it would be here today. But through the efforts of so many people, today, we are celebrating. ... We want our sponsors to know their decisions were well-made. And this community, this area and this state welcome them and hope to make them
feel right at home for many, many years to come".
Snedeker is the defending champion of the PGA staged event. He is in the field and is hoping to win back the glory again.
Last year, he scored a 12-under 272 and won in a playoff mode. He defeated the current No. 1 Luke Donald on the third hole, by making an early birdie.
Tommy Gainey finished on the third position. He was one stroke behind both the players and competed well throughout the four-day tournament.
The RBC Heritage is scheduled to begin from April 12 to 15, 2012. Donald and Snedeker will again be competing this year. They have to face each other once again and only impressive scores on the course will help players outcompete their rivals.
