Hi! I work at Starbucks and can kinda help you.

There are two things you can get, a Starbucks Duetto Card and the Gift Card.

The Duetto card is coupled with a type of credit card (it's for those who are HEAVY Starbucks drinkers) and you can use the Starbucks side of the card at Starbucks, and the credit card at any other store where you're shopping.

The ones you see in the stores are "gift cards" but you can reload it with money and use it like a debit card. The NEW system that we have is to register your card. What you do is go on the internet and register the number on the back at the starbucks website and it qualifies you for a free tall drink if you buy 1 pound of coffee, free syrups and extra shots in your drink, and free WiFi in the stores. Now you don't HAVE to register your card if you don't want to, you can just put money on it and use it like a debit card w/o the benefits.
