Hey, Ive got a 1998 Acura SLX with a premium sound system but the factory stereo is kinda lame and i want to install a different radio, particularly the Sony CDX-GT610UI. I went to circuit city and asked for a install kit so i could put it in, but they told me that they would have to rewire the entire car... which i have a feeling is a load of bs... having worked in an electronics store myself (haha). I have a harness for it and was just wondering if i could just hook this radio up to the factory amp and be fine. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

  1. an easy way to tell if you CAN do this, is to see if the harness that connects to the car, and gets spliced to the radios harness, has an amp turn-on wire.  usually this is marked right on the wire itself, and should be solid blue.  if so, just wire that to your radios harness (amp turn-on, solid blue) and the factory amp will turn on, so the speakers will work just fine.

  2. to answer your question....hmm no you can not hook up like that..bc there a factory amp built into the car...what you need to do is bypass the amp...in order to do that u need to find where the factory amp located at and once u find that..cut all the car speaker wire from the amp..but dont cut to close to the plug..leave some room...then u need to run four new speaker wire from the wire that u just cut from the amp and rerun them to the back of the new radio and just pop the speaker wire u just run and see which speaker is which and connect it to the radio speaker..left front...ect...and u be done
