As the other entries, won both by Silva, complete the story in a cooperative fashion, adding one addition after the other one. Wins the tastiest, better addition.

Once upon a time, there was a master dollmaker, old and alone. When he was younger, he built toys and dolls for all the children of his town, then for the children of those children, and for their nephews and nieces. However, now he was old, really old, and without no one to care with him.

So, he built a mechanical doll. She was a lifesized doll, with skin of bone china, painted lips, eyes and cheeks, with a cherubic, kind expression, and the ageless apperance of a young lady, a ballerina, down to the simple white dress and the ballerina slippers. A complex, hidden, and enchanted mechanism gave her the ability to move freely, and to think a little by herself. She was able to silently care for her "father" (having a painted face, and being a doll, she couldn't even speak to him), and sometimes ventured out of her place to shop for groceries. Being a doll, she couldn't feel emotion, but, somehow, she felt uneasy being surrounded by fleshy people, and always came back home in no time. She had no passions, not even something she liked: however, due to her mechanical nature, she felt "drawn" to order and neatness. And even without knowing what love was, she deeply cared for her father, as daughter would be for her aging father.

One day, however, his father "broke". To her, he seemed just broken. He didn't move anymore, he didn't speak to her. The doll stayed at his side for some days, then, without nothing else to do, went away.

No one suspected she was a mere doll, they just thought she had gone silent and weird by grieving, and being all alone for so many time, so no one paid attention to her.

One day the ballerina doll, after winding up her gears, saw a group of ballet dancers, performing in public. She felt drawn to that group of girls, moving almost as exactly and neatly as she could, and tried to dance with them.

The other girls, and the public, were amazed, impressed by her ability, and, after the show, the girls brought the unknown ballerina in white behind the scenes to converse a bit with her...

  1. "There's something funny going on here," said the head master as he scurried to a corner, and quickly fixed his shirt. "Ever since that new girl arrived I've had the strangest feeling that..."

"Head Master," the new girl suddenly appeared next to him, and said.

"Yes," he said as he thought to himself, what is she going to do now...Dance on the ceiling???

"I would like to thank you for your generosity. Please accept these pencils, pencils, pencils..." her head jerked oddly. "As a gratitude for my kindness."

"What's wrong, dear," the Head Master asked...

  2. oh dear...

  3. They  were eager to find out where she had schooled and how she had learned to be so brilliantly  fluid yet so precisely perfect  in all of her steps.

She evaded  their questions easily enough and instead wowed them with   her natural mechanical grace and elegant movements.

As she pirouetted daintily and deliciously across the floor the Head Master watched  her speculatively.

There was something very odd about this girl but he could not figure out what it was.

Out of the corner of her X-ray like vision she had observed him studying her and sensed his mistrust...which came to her as a tingling vibe resonating above her head.

She somehow knew that she must impress this fellow if she was to be allowed to enter this group and at this moment it was all that she desired.

She thought of all her father had taught her and advanced towards him.....

  4. The Head Master did indeed suspect this girl was different from the others because besides being a perfect dancer, she was also tireless, and never took a break….not even to go to the bathroom. This seemed very strange to say the least.

“You must be thirsty, little one, may I offer you a cool drink of water?” he asked the ballerina. “Oh! No! I never drink while I am dancing,” answered the girl. “Well then, how about a nice delicious piece of chocolate?” he offered, as he held out an open box of candy. “I’ll just take a piece with me for later,” was her reply.

“I see,” replied the Head Master, as he  gazed upon her perfect features, still trying to figure out what it was about this girl that seemed so odd. “I have decided to offer you a position with our dance company,” said the Head Master, “but first you must pass a physical.”

“You mean I must be examined by a medical doctor?” asked the dancer. She knew if she allowed this, her secret would be exposed, so she …….

  5. She decided to hypnotize the Head Master. After all, what other option WAS there? Sooooo, without the tiniest inkling of what was happening, the Head Master and fellow dancers were all put under her magical, mechanical(and somewhat, MANICAL) spell. She suggested ,in NO uncertain terms, that the doctor in question possessed QUESTIONABLE morals!

The doll rubbed her tiny porcelain hands in glee! She mumbled some words known only to her and Homer Radcliff ( the maker of the doll who lived in Hoboken) and finished up with a salute to Michael Phelps.( She had cheered her hero, just the night before and was still reeling with excitement!)

Just before awakening the roomful of trance-like dance aficionados, she decided to have a little fun. She tied the shoelaces together of one of the dancers, removed the tapping devices from another, rebuttoned( in a crazy fashion) the shirt of the Head Master, and loosened the zipper of the sole male dancer in the group.

Then she clapped her hands like a wild penguin!

    The class awoke.

    Sarah, the tap dancer:

walked to the water fountain and was dismayed to find that her shoes couldn't create the metallic sound that she had come to expect. ( The CRUCIAL noise needed for all tap dancers!) Try as she may, no sound came forth. She looked like a cartoon character as she jumped frantically around the room.

    Martina:

in her effort to calm her down, ran to her side, falling flat on her face! "Who the h**l tied my shoelaces," she shrieked!!

    Brian:

felt a cool breeze. Realizing he was exposed, quickly crossed his legs and pulled his zipper up!

    Head Master:

"On second thought, Dr. Hyde IS a bit strange. I think we'll just skip it."

As he tried to reorganize the class he caught his reflection in the mirrored wall and was aghast at the condition of his shirt!!!!

    NEEEEEEEXT.......
