Question:

New tire for my road bike/cyclocross for not so great roads?

I have a cyclocross bike that I mostly commute on as well as do 15-20 mile rides on the weekends. I live in the city so the roads are not so great but there are stretches where I can get up some pretty decent speed. Right now i'm on knobby 35's looking to go to maybe 28's. I want more speed but I think all the way down to 23 and I might have too much trouble with the roads. I've been considering the:

Schwalbe Marathon Plus

Conti Ultra Gatorskin

Panaracer T-Serv

Does anyone have experieces with more than one of these that can compare? I's like for these tires to at least last me 1000 miles. Apparently the Schwalbe's are very durable but also heavy. I don't know about the others though.

  1. I have ridden the Gatorskins but not the others. The Gatorskins should last you well over 1000 miles. I found them to be very durable and long lasting. They are not especially light but they're not built to be racing tires. They're made for heavy training and rough roads. They offer good puncture resistance and long life.

They used to come in both wire and kevlar bead. The kevlar would weigh a little less.
