New to Powerboating?

Question

Inherited a SeaRay Cruiser. Taking it out of the Merrimack River from Salisbury, Massachusetts. Want to go out to Stellwagen Bank/other "out there" locations. We learned how to use charts/ATONs/GPS and the such. Want first hand accounts in how to prepare ourselves/protocol to adhere and most importantly what not to do. Thanks.

In all honesty, I'd recommend checking with your local Coast Guard station, and see if they have any safe boating courses scheduled for the near future.  They have a great course that will give you a good headstart on how to read the channel markers, look for water hazards, understand currents and weather conditions.  They also have boating safety information on their website...
