Thinking of going with my mum on Caribbean cruise next year to celebrate her 60th Birthday. Neither of us has ever cruised before, we have seen a really good deal with Norwegian Cruise Lines Fly-Cruise from UK around Caribbean. We are not looking for anything too glamorous it's really not us but something a bit special. NCL have Freestyle dining which appeals as I don't think we could bear the stuffiness of some cruise ships with all the pomp and ceremony of formal dining - I don't even own a Cocktail dress!! Any recommendations?

  1. i went on a carribean cruise 2 years ago with ocean village, was great, no dressing up, was very casual, loved it.

  2. They have this really good package deal going on this site..u should check it out. I love it. It have everything I need in one stop. Believe me both of you will enjoy the cruise...Hope this helps:)

  3. My cruising "bible" which you should be able to pick up or order from your local library, is a Berlitz travel guide called "Ocean Cruising & Cruise Ships" by Douglas Ward who is reckoned to be the world's foremost authority on cruising.  I noticed they had copies in the bookshop "The Works" a couple of weeks ago - the 2005 version but this will tell you everything you need to know.

It's quite a chunky book of nearly 700 pages and in it he describes cruising in general, every cruise line and every ship operated by each line.  It tells you what to expect on board, what and what not to wear, facilities, which age group each ship is suitable for; I can think of some which your mother probably wouldn't enjoy!  You name it, he's covered it.

We've cruised with P & O - from Southampton, which is good because there is no bother with flying to your destination and thoroughly enjoyed our trips.
