  1. ALWAYS BACK UP MUSIC.

the mAster files are on the computer in the itunes library and you really need to back these up directly.

Thats NOT they way its designed to work the ipod is a slave device to ONE itunes only although itunes can have many ipods. When you PAIR an iPod with a computer it erases all songs on it!!! and deletes pairing with original computer.

Simply dragging music onto an ipod does NOT make that music playable it then acts as hard disk. To make the music playable you MUST use itunes to sync with it as only itunes can put the music files in the correct file names (not the same as on the computer) in hidden folders and create the hidden indexes for them to be playable.

When you pair the ipod to a computer it erases ALL the previous library and tracks and replaces it with what the current computer want it to.

I suggest copying the contents of the "iTunes Music" folder on your old computer onto the new one by USB hard disk, USB Flash memory or DVD-r

You can Burn CD's for use in the car easily. first make a playlist with less than 66 minutes of music ( then check settings under burning to see that you are making an Audio CD, check CD text as well as if your player has it, it makes reading the info easier).

then simply click on the burn symbol and insert your blank CD - itunes will do all the work without an external burn program.

  2. yes its a good idea to backup your music you will essentially burn all your music to a disk.

If you get a virus it will probably attack the files on your computer, but I have never had a problem when downloading from itunes with any viruses.

Yes you can burn a disk for playing in your car

  3. I'm not sure about backing it up but you can burn your music to a disc.

First go to "file" then "new playlist", drag the songs from your library into the playlist name.

Then there should be a symbol, bottom right, that allows you to burn disc.

    Hope this helps.

  4. You should always back up everything on a computer anyway. But, yes, it's a good idea to copy your iTunes library onto an external hard drive. If for any reason your iTunes gets wiped out by a virus (you must have a PC), you CAN buy a utility (for Macs, one is PodWorks - I'm not familiar with PC's) that will allow you to transfer all your music that is currently on your iPod onto your computer's iTunes.

Yes, you can burn a disc using your iTune songs.
